Saint James scored two touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game and never trailed in the highest scoring game of the series all time as the K.J. Jackson threw for three touchdowns, ran for another, and Cosner Harrison picked up two touchdowns of his own as the Trojans completed their seventh 9 - 1 regular season with a 42 - 35 defeat of the visiting Trinity Wildcats.

Trinity won the opening coin toss but opted to defer giving Saint James the first possession.  Ethan Beard started with a nice kickoff return of 37 yards to the Trojan 44.  One play later Saint James was on the scoreboard as Cosner Harrison took a handoff up the middle, broke into the secondary and broke away from the last line of the Trinity defense grabbing for shirt with little success, and 56 yards later Saint James was up 6 - 0 as the extra point was deflected.

The Trojan defense responded with a quick three and out and Beard fair caught a punt at his own 35.  After a 2 yard Harrison run, K.J. Jackson lofted the first of his three touchdown passes to a wide open Beard on a post pattern and less than 3 minutes into the game the Trojans were up by two touchdowns.  Harrison bolstered the lead to a full 14 with a two point conversion run.

Despite an out of bounds kick, it appeared Trinity would be stifled on their second drive as well.  However, on third down, quarterback Coleman Stanley tossed a sideline pass to Chase Ledner who niftily avoided two potential tacklers on the Wildcat sidelines and outraced chasing defenders for a 69 yard catch and run touchdown.  Grayden Flowers made the first of what would be all five of his extra point attempts and the Trojan lead was cut in half to 14 - 7 with still plenty of first quarter time remaining.

Trinity returned the favor with an out of bounds kick and Saint James was driving again.  A 26 yard catch by Clint Houser erased penalty yardage accrued on a Harrison run.  Later, however, the drive stalled on third and short inside the Wildcat 15 with a penalty.  Saint James attempted to convert a fourth down and 5 from the Trinity 17, but Harrison was one yard short on his drive and Trinity had held.  After one first down, the Wildcats were forced to punt again to the Trojans to effectively end the opening quarter, and Saint James had great field position after the punt traveled only 10 net yards.  Jackson was lucky to recover a fumbled snap on the opening play of the second quarter, but several plays later he converted a huge fourth down and 10 with a 13 yard scramble.  Later a Jackson touchdown run by wiped out by a holding penalty, but a pass interference penalty gave Saint James new life.  Several plays later, Jackson found Clint Houser in the endzone on a 10 yard slant for a score, and the Huff extra point returned the lead to 14 at 21 - 7.

Saint James was the benefactor of instant good field position as a fumble after a short pass reception was recovered by Jonathan Harris at the Trinity 26.  The next three plays netted minus three yards, so Huff was called in to attempt a 46 yard field goal on a very windy field, and the kick failed.  Trinity struck quickly.  Ladner ran for 5 on first down and a 15 yard face mask penalty quickly advanced the ball to the 40.  On the next play, Stanley lofted a similar pass, headed in the other direction, to Mac McClinton who avoided tacklers on a 60 yard jaunt to the endzone, and Flowers' extra point cut the lead again to 7 with still half, exactly, of the second quarter remaining.

A holding penalty negated most of a nice Houser kickoff return, and the Trojans were forced to punt deep in their own territory.  A short punt was fielded by Norris Pemberton on a high bounce and he returned the kick all the way to the Saint James 21.  McClinton picked up 18 yards on first down, and Letner was rewarded with the final 3 for the touchdown and the extra point tied the game at 21.  A short kickoff was fair caught by Bradley Thomas at the Trojan 34, and Saint James yearned for one more touchdown before halftime.  They were rewarded as Harrison ran for 7 yards, a pass interference penalty on a deep ball earned 15 more yards, and then Harrison broke loose on a 44 yard touchdown scamper just 55 seconds after allowing the game to be tied.  Huff's extra point at the "two minute warning" gave the Trojans their 7 point lead back, and they would never be caught again.

The Trojans actually had to take a five yard delay of game penalty to start the second half despite a rousing presentation for the first scholarship for a college student who had survived cancer from the Nolan Fields "Fly With Fields" Foundation.  The Wildcats could not convert a first down, and then Saint James - known for their frequent very short drives in the 2021 season - embarked on a 17 play drive which ate up over 8 minutes of the third quarter.  Bradley Thomas converted a key fourth down and 5 with a 12 yard pass reception which was followed by a Harrison 11 yard run.  Three plays later, Jackson called his own number off right tackle for a 7 yard score and Saint James had their 14 point lead back at 35 - 21 nearing the end of quarter number 3.

Trinity then followed suit with an 11 play drive of their own.  Ladner scored on his second three yard touchdown of the night and the lead again closed to 7 points with just over 9 minutes remaining.  It didn't stay close for long.  After an endzone kickoff, Harrison rushed for 14 yards on first down and 2 on the following play.  Jackson again found his favorite deep receiver Beard who outraced tiring Trinity chasers for a 64 yard touchdown to push the lead back to 14 at 42 - 28.

The Wildcats added a touchdown on their next drive which covered 80 yards as Stanley threw his third touchdown pass of the evening, a 15 yarder to Lucas Pittman, and the score was 42 - 35 with still 3:26 remaining.  Saint James could not convert a first down after Houser returned a perhaps surprisingly deep kickoff to the 31, and the ensuing punt, only the second Trojan punt of the game, gave Trinity a last chance at their own 31 yard line with 80 seconds remaining.  McClinton caught a 12 yard pass for a first down at the Trinity 43, but two plays later Saint James Senior Clayton Craft picked off a Stanley pass for the biggest turnover of the season and he 'gave himself up' after returning the ball well into Wildcat territory.  With Trinity having only one time out remaining, Saint James was able to run out the clock for a very satisfying win.  Now they turned their eyes to a different first round playoff opponent than they expected, the Anniston Bulldogs.  Anniston, like Saint James, was atop their region but was discovered to have used an ineligible player which resulted in two forfeit losses in their region, pushing them back to the fourth seed earning the right to travel to Carlisle Field.  Playoff time!
