Saint James scored five touchdowns on its first five possessions - three K.J. Jackson touchdown passes and two Cosner Harrison touchdown runs and the reserves got to play an entire time-shortened second half as the Trojans clinched their ninth overall Area/Region championship with a 35 - 8 victory over the visiting Ashford Yellow Jackets.

Ashford won the opening coin toss and elected to receive - a rarity for Saint James not to possess the ball first.  It didn't take long however.  10 yards of penalties on the opening drive forced a fourth down and 20 from the Jacket 16.  The all out punt block was called for and the attempted punt was smothered before being recovered by Ariel July at the Jacket 5.  From there, one handoff to number 5, Cosner Harrison, earned 5 yards and a quick 6 points.  Jake Huff converted the first of his 5 (do I detect a theme?) extra points and Saint James was up 7 - 0 less than three minutes into the game.

The Jackets were three and out on their next drive as well.  In fact, as the Trojans scored five touchdowns on their first five drives, Ashford's first five drives ended in punts.  (The theme continues)  The second Trojan drive covered 70 yards, highlighted by a 16 yard catch by Ethan Beard and a nifty 37 yard catch and run touchdown by Bradley Thomas, who wiggled by a defender at the 5 yard line for the score.  The extra point gave the Trojans a 14 - 0 lead.

A fine punt return by Beard advanced the ball to the Ashford 30, and the Trojans were in the endzone for the third time in the first quarter three plays later.  An illegal procedure play negated a Harrison first down run, but then Jackson lofted a pass over the middle to Clayton Craft who had to dive to reach the endzone.  He did and earned a 31 yard touchdown reception and bolstered the lead to 21 - 0 in the last minute of the first quarter.

Ashford finally converted their initial first down on the opening play of the second quarter, but it was short-lived success.  Saint James took over after an out of bounds punt at their own 44.  An 11 yard run by Harrison and a 13 yard completion to Clint Houser were followed up by a nice run by backup runner Cole Anderson, who finished the night with an impressive 64 yards.  A holding penalty negated another sizable Harrison run but on the next play Jackson found Beard open for 23 yards and a touchdown which soon became a 28 - 0 lead.

Saint James' next drive was all Harrison.  Four consecutive runs of 10,25,12, and 3 yards to traverse half the field and Harrison's night was over with his second touchdown as the Trojans took a commanding 35 - 0 lead into halftime and the remainder of the game belonged to the reserves.  The coaches mutually agreed to six minute quarters in the second half.  The Saint James "babies" (affectionately called) drove down the field for three first downs eating up almost the entire third quarter.  A 35 yard field goal attempt by Wynston Redden was short and left, and Ashford finally managed to drive against the backups, some third stringers on the depth chart.  Jacket quarterback Will Lawrence lofted a pass to designated team "athlete" Jalen Smith for an 11 yard touchdown pass with just over 90 seconds remaining, and Lamarieon Walton ended the scoring with a two point conversion run to make the final score 35 - 8.

The Trojans conclude regular season road play with a region game at the Geneva Panthers, a locale they have not visited since 2005 to try and even the all-time series between the two teams at 2 and 2.  Following that, a big intra-city matchup at home with the Trinity Wildcats and a first round guaranteed home playoff matchup against an east central Alabama team bode as October wanes and November beckons.
