Saint James scored four touchdowns in the first 12½ minutes of the game on their way to a region-championship-defending victory 44 - 21 over the homestanding Bullock County Hornets.

After a fair catch on a short kickoff, the Trojans traveled 63 yards methodically on their opening drive.  Austin Gavin picked up yardage on several carries, and Michael Shalayda picked up 17 on a pass from Drew Fett.  A key offside penalty on fourth down and 1 gave Saint James a first down at the Hornet 12, and on the next play Alex Whisenhunt powered for the final 12 yards of the drive and the first touchdown of the game.  Jan Wachowitz's extra point gave the Trojans an early 7 - 0 lead.

Bullock County was boxed in after a short kickoff return and actually lost yardage on their downs.  A pressured punt only traveled to the 24 yard line, and on the following play Gavin took a handoff up the middle and dragged several Hornet would-be tacklers across the goal line for another touchdown.  Wachowitz's extra point doubled the lead to 14 with 4½ minutes reamining in the first quarter.

The Hornets were much more effective offensively on their second drive.  After another short kickoff return, Kenny Owens broke up consecutive runs of 11 and 64 yards to quickly advance the ball to the Trojan 8.  Two plays later, Jaymarkis Foster finished off the drive with a 6 yard touchdown run.  The extra point quickly cut the lead in half to 7 at 14 - 7 and it appeared the game could turn into a track meet early.

The Trojans promptly responded.  Bennett Blankenship returned the kickoff to his own 42.  After Gavin runs of 9 and 16 yards, Fett looked and found a wide open Shalayda down the near sidelines for a 33 yard touchdown pass.  Wachowitz's extra point gave the Trojans their 14 point lead back, at 21 - 7, with still over a minute remaining in the first quarter.

After a defensive offside penalty on the kickoff, Wachowitz boomed the kickoff through the endzone for a touchback.  Consecutive plays netted a loss of four yards for the Hornets.  After an incomplete pass and a delay of game penalty to start the second quarter, the resulting Bullock County punt was blocked by several onrushing Trojans and the ball was fallen on by Dalton Washington in the endzone for another Trojan score.  The extra point gave Saint James a 28 - 7 lead and finally some breathing room.

The teams traded lost fumbles on their next possessions, the Saint James fumble inside the Hornet 10 yard line.  Again Bullock County was forced to punt from deep within their own territory, and Saint James set up shop at the Hornet 40.  After a nearly certain touchdown pass was dropped, Fett did connect with Whisenhunt for a 12 yarder and a first down.  However, a sack and a wayward snap on fourth down turned the ball back over to Bullock County.  After one first down, a tipped Hornet pass was intercepted by Whisenhunt and it was returned near midfield as the half was winding down.  Gavin ran for 13 on first down and several plays later Fett connected with Brock Woodham for a 15 yard gain and a first down at the Hornet 25.  After a timeout, Fett tossed a pass over the middle to Turner Davis who bulldozed his way through potential tacklers the final 5 yards for another touchdown.  The extra point gave Saint James a 35 - 7 halftime lead.

Neither team fared well on their opening third quarter possessions.  Bullock County had to fall on a fumbled attempted handoff on fourth down, and the Trojans had a case of badsnapitis on consecutive plays, high snaps to both quarterback on third down and punter on fourth down which gave the Hornets great field position starting at the Trojan 36.  Luke Sturdivant wrestled away a pass reception from a Trojan defender for a 31 yard gain down to the 5 yard line, and two plays later virtually the same play was repeated as freshman quarterback Dominick Graves lifted the high pass to Sturdivant for a 7 yard touchdown.  The extra point attempt was blocked, but the Hornets had cut the lead to 35 - 13.

A nice kickoff return by Brock Woodham led to first down runs of 15 by Gavin and 13 by Andrew Sadie.  The drive stalled however, and Wachowitz was called on the kick a 40 yard field goal on the opening play of the fourth quarter, which he converted, and Saint James now led 38 - 13.

A Hornet pass was intercepted on a fine diving play by Woodham to give Saint James great field position at the Hornet 24.  Gavin was called on four times in a row, and his fourth carry of 2 yards gave him his second touchdown of the evening and wrapped up the Trojan scoring after the extra point attempt was blocked.  Nevertheless, the lead was pushed to 44 - 13.

Bullock County added a late breakaway touchdown on against the Trojan defensive reserves as Je'Derrius Flintroy caught a short pass from Graves and rumbled 64 yards for a touchdown.  He also scored on a fake extra point kick attempt on a conversion run to follow up and wrap up the scoring at 44 - 21.  Saint James traveled back up highway 110 looking forward to what could be their toughest region test of the season - a visit down the other direction of Vaughn Road to McLemore Field in a Capital City Conference matchup against Montgomery Academy the following week.
