Coach Jimmy Perry picked up his 100th career head coaching victory, and his Saint James Trojans picked up their fourth consecutive win against a Capital City Conference opponent as the Trojans were solid in all phases of the game as they exacted revenge on the only team to defeat them in the 2016 regular season, the Montgomery Academy Eagles, with a dominating 30 - 6 road victory, Saint James'  eleventh consecutive regular season road triumph.

After winning the coin toss, Saint James took the opening possession but could not earn a first down.  A good punt gave the Eagles fair field position, but on the first play Montgomery Academy switched the field as quarterback Trey Lindsey tossed a 51 yard pass and run to William Robertson, and suddenly the Trojans were defending a short space as the Eagles had advanced to the Trojans 25 yard line.  However, four plays later on fourth down and 3, running back Keefe White was stuffed in the backfield for a four yard loss.   The Trojans made some headway on the ground as Tony Amerson picked up a pair of first downs on 7 and 10 yard runs, both on third down conversions, as part of his 247 yards rushing.  However, Collin Duncan had the ball stripped after an 11 yard gain just across midfield.  Robertson converted another first down on a pass reception on the first play, but once again the Trojans' defense forbade any further yardage, and a punt was taken in at the 15 yard line.  Amerson and Stephen Sadie earned several more first downs for the Trojans, but another punt was forced in a first quarter with minimal offensive success.  Montgomery Academy was stopped on a three and out on their opening series of the second quarter, and after a short punt Saint James finally had good field position at their own 44.  Quarterback Josh Garnett picked up seven yards on a keeper on first down.  Duncan and Amerson earned more first downs via the ground, and the Trojans drove as far as the Eagles 19.  After the second quarter heat time out, Garnett lofted a pass toward the endzone but it was intercepted on the back line by the Eagles.  However, a defensive pass interference penalty in the endzone overruled the interception, and Saint James had a first down just inside the ten yard line.  On the following play, Amerson took a handoff and broke a pair of tackles at the five yard line as he dashed into the endzone for the first score of the game.  Jin Kim's extra point, his first of four consecutive, gave Saint James a 7 - 0 lead with less than six minutes remaining in the half.

The Eagles finally got some offensive momentum with some short runs and passes, assisted by two major Trojan penalties, the second a face mask penalty after an out of bounds punt.  From the Trojan 15, Montgomery Academy could only gain one yard on three plays, and a field goal was attempted.  The kick was deflected and recovered at the 13 yard line with less than 2 minutes to go.  After a Duncan run of 8 yards sandwiched by Amerson runs of 15 and 10 yard runs, Saint James realized yet another chance to score before halftime.  With 10 seconds remaining in the half, Amerson broke loose on am 18 yard run which unfortunately ran out the clock.  However, the Eagles were called for a defensive holding penalty, and the ten yard penalty was added to the end of the run and an untimed down was awarded to Saint James.  Kim attempted a 34 yard field goal which had plenty of distance but veered wide left, and the Trojan lead remained at 7 at halftime.

After a good kickoff and a short return, the Eagles began the second half at their own 21 yard line.  Three plays gained little yardage, and on fourth down the Trojans called for the punt block.  The snap bounced once, and four Trojans broke through the punt protection.  Sadie blocked the punt and it went through the back of the endzone for a safety, giving Saint James a nine point lead in the first minute of the third quarter.  It appeared Saint James would have ideal field position after the free kickoff went out of bounds, but a dead ball personal foul penalty pushed the ball back into Trojan territory.  No worries as six consecutive rushing plays by Amerson, Tyler Robertson, and Sadie against the tiring Eagle defense marched the ball down to the one yard line, where Garnett kept straight up the middle for a touchdown.  Kim's extra point gave Saint James a 16 - 0 lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Once again a deep kickoff and short return forced the Eagles to start within their own twenty yard line, and again the Trojan defense forced a three and out.  Saint James advanced as far as the Eagle 38, but a 10 yard loss on a fumble required a punt.   Yet once again the Trojan special teams responded as the punt was muffed by the Eagle receiver at the 12 yard line.  The ball was picked up and carried into the endzone, but by rule muffed punts cannot be advanced, so the Trojans merely continued their drive from the 12 yard line.  Four consecutive runs by Tony Amerson, the final one on the first play of the fourth quarter and a fourth down at that, netted twelve yards and the Kim extra point furthered the lead to 23 - 0.

Montgomery Academy finally managed to score on their next drive.  An offensive fumble advancement on a third down carry was a huge play, and Lindsey connected with John Adams on a pass which was caught near the Trojan 20 yard line, but Adams managed to break away from the tackler and complete a 41 yard catch and run touchdown.  A two point conversion pass was batted down, but the Eagles had finally dented the scoreboard at 6 - 23 with still nearly nine minutes remaining.

A desperation onside kick was touched by an Eagle nine yards downfield, giving the Trojans great field position.  An illegal motion penalty negated a first down, but on the next play from the Trojan 48, Amerson took a handoff up the middle and powered through the Eagle defense before breaking free into the secondary and racing 52 yards on his final carry of the game for what would be the final tally after Kim's fourth extra point.

Substitutes on both teams hit the field for the remainder of the game as neither team seriously threatened to score, but the Trojans were back on track as they looked forward to traveling to another Vaughn Road opponent the following week, this time their neighbors the Catholic Knights, as the 4A Region 2 season was about to begin.
