September 24, 2010   Carlisle Field.   Game Conditions:  Mostly Clear   Game Temperature:  87   Wind:  Mostly negligible

C.J. Duncan was responsible for four touchdowns, as he ran one in from 61 yards out and threw three touchdown passes, most notably two incredible plays by both the passer and receiver on two long tosses to Walker Woodson, as Saint James avoided a potential school-record tying tenth consecutive loss by defeating Montgomery Academy worse than at any time in their previous 37 meetings with the Trojans stomping the Eagles 42 - 12 at Carlisle Field.

The Trojans completely destroyed a 13 year old record by amassing 577 yards in the contest.  The previous high was 501 against Alabama Christian in 1997, the only time the Trojans had ever managed at least 500 yards of total offense.  They had the first 71 of those in only 78 seconds.  After Walker Woodson returned the opening kickoff to the Saint James 29, C.J. Duncan hooked up with a wide open Jake Jabour across the middle of the field, and he outraced and outmuscled defenders for a 60 yard pickup on the first scrimmage play of the game down to the Eagle 8.  An encroachment penalty moved the ball to the 4.  Duncan called his own number on first down and came up about two feet short.  On second down, Woodson snuck in for the first touchdown of the game.  Austin Meadows, who tied another school record for being perfect on all 6 of his extra point kicks, gave the Trojans a very quick and very tidy 7 - 0 lead.

The Eagles punted after their first possession, and a block in the back negated a good Woodson return.  However, Saint James added another 80 yards to their total in only 57 seconds.  Nick Ostrye ran for 7 yards and Duncan for 12 before an incomplete pass.  On the next play, Duncan again called his own number and wove his way through the Eagle secondary for a 61 yard touchdown.  The Meadows extra point gave Saint James a 14 point lead just over 4 minutes into the game.

Montgomery Academy was stopped again, but a holding penalty on the Trojans' next drive slowed their relentless march.  After an endzone punt, the Eagles finally picked up one first down, but a deflected punt shanked out of bounds into the Saint James student section gave the Trojans the ball at midfield.  Three plays later, on the initial play of the second quarter, Duncan attempted a pass to Woodson which was deflected and perhaps should have been intercepted, but Woodson came down with the ball near the 30 and avoided several tacklers as he outraced them to the endzone for his second score of the night, and the Trojans were up by 21 one play into the second quarter.

The Eagles finally moved into Trojan territory on their next drive, but an incomplete pass on fourth down from the Trojan 34 returned the ball to Saint James.  The Trojans returned on the favor the same way, an incomplete pass on fourth down, at the Eagles 38.  On the next play, while avoiding a sack, Eagle quarterback Hayes Vinson actually threw a backward pass which went out of bounds 17 yards behind the line of scrimmage.  Several plays later, after a punt, Saint James found the endzone once more in the opening half.  Duncan converted a third and 10 with a 12 yard pass to Taylor Wachs (not Hunter, sorry), and then two plays later executed the play of the year as he avoided two sacks amazingly, ran probably 45 or 50 yards in the backfield, before finding Woodson open at the 20 yard line.  Tired defenders who had been chasing Trojan receivers while Duncan worked his magic crashed, and Woodson scored his third touchdown of the half.  Meadows fourth extra point gave Saint James a very comfortable 28 point lead.  This was the first time in 38 games the Trojans had ever scored more than 27 in a game against the Eagles, and the game was not even half completed.

After a failed fourth down attempt by the Eagles on their opening second half drive, the Trojans marched 47 yards.  On fourth down from the 26, Duncan found Lee Ketzler for a 26 yard touchdown catch and run, Duncan's second game of the season with three touchdown passes.  The score was 35 - 0 soon thereafter.

Montgomery Academy finally got on the board.  Vinson, who had been injured on the previous drive, was replaced by Hampton Hook.  On third down from his own 36, Hook called his own number around left end, a sweep play which had for the most part been seriously ineffective earlier in the game.  However, this time, Hook raced 60 yards and was brought down just inside the Saint James 5 yard line by some good defensive pursuit.  However, on the next play, the shutout vanished as Jason Thompson carried in from four yards out.  Drew Brantley blocked the extra point attempt, and Saint James was up 35 - 6.

After Haynes Litchfield, seeing his first significant action of the season, returned a kickoff to the Trojan 27, Saint James was on the scoreboard 4 plays later.  Duncan carried for 34 on first down.  Ostrye barrelled for 10 on the next play.  On the third play, it appeared Duncan was off to the races again and headed for a 29 yard touchdown play.  However, as he prepared to dive into the endzone, he stepped out on the Eagle 5 yard line.  He landed awkwardly and was a bit slow to get up, but he jogged off the field and his stellar night was complete.  Ostrye took the honors on the next play, carrying in for the 5 yard touchdown and the final Trojan touchdown of the evening.

Despite numerous reserves in on both teams, there were several threats to score.   Graham Norwood intercepted a Hook pass in the endzone early in the fourth quarter to stop a promising Eagle drive.  Saint James called on offensive and defensive lineman Cal Cherry to carry the ball several times, which he did.  Once, it appeared he had broken away for a 57 yard touchdown as defenders seemed skiddish at best trying to tackle the Cherry train zooming down the field.  However, a holding penalty limited his carry to 24 yards, and several plays later the Trojans committed their only turnover of the game by fumbling on the Eagle 31.

The Eagles did score on their final drive of the game as fourth, perhaps, string running back Justin Woolfolk broke loose for a 60 yard run which would have been a 64 yard touchdown run had it not been for a touchdown saving horsecollar tackle at the Trojan 4.  This meant that two of the Eagles' runs accounted for 122 of the 177 total yards in the game.  After a half the distance penalty, Neal McCorvey scored from two yards out.  A two point conversion run attempt by Woolfolk failed, and the Trojans had enough to run out the clock and claim a very impressive 42 - 12 victory over a city rival, as the Trojans looked forward to a brand new regional opponent and Homecoming 2010 the following week.
