September 22, 2006.  7 PM  Boykin Field.  Game Conditions:  Cloudy, humid, breezy  Game Temperature:  79  Wind:  SE  5 - 15

St. James played stellar defense for the better part of three quarters, but could only threaten to score once before Trinity finally won the field position war which had been brewing all game, and scored three times on the Trojan defense in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats picked up their third region win with a 17 - 0 shutout of the Trojans.

The first three quarters were highlighted by the defenses as both offenses struggled.  Each team picked up exactly one first down on each of their first three possessions.  Trinity, which won the coin toss and deferred their choice until the second half, opted for the wind in the first quarter when the Trojans elected to receive.  The Wildcats failed to threaten in the first quarter, not even reaching Trojan territory.  St. James was not having much better luck, but on their second possession of the second quarter they began to move the ball a bit.  A 14 yard reception by Chase Christian from John Enslen gave the Trojans first down at the Wildcat 43.  A nine yard completion to Will Martin on third down gave St. James a choice on a fourth and 1, and they opted for a field goal.  The 51 yarder, which would have matched Graham Sutter's from the previous game, was deflected and picked up by Griffin Littlefield, who ran it back to the Wildcat 29.

Trinity again could not get into Trojan territory, but St. James did manage to get into Trinity territory as the first half clock was winding down.  However, time expired at the conclusion of a 9 yard completion to Sutter which had moved the ball as close as the Trinity 30, and the teams headed for halftime scoreless.

St. James took the wind option in the third quarter.  Trinity ran the half-opening kickoff back to its own 45, giving them an immediate field position advantage they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.  Despite no first downs, a Wildcat punt was fair caught by the Trojans at their own 14.  After a sack, a 13 yard reception by Christian was not enough for first down yardage, but Sutter's punt pushed the Wildcats back to their own 34.  Trinity again failed to make a first down, and a fine return by Blaine Joyner on the punt was cut by a block in the back penalty, St. James' first of the evening.  A defensive holding penalty led to the initial second half first down, but the Trojans were forced to punt again.  Sutter got his punt up with the wind, a bit too much perhaps, as it traveled 63 yards into the endzone.  This tied his own school record (for the second time) of a 63 yard punt.  Trinity did pick up a first down, but punted again.  This time, Whit Mitchell's punt pinned the Trojans at their own 24.  Again, the Trojans failed to move the ball, and what may have been the key play of the game was the last play of the third quarter, where St. James hurried to punt before the clock expired.  The punt travelled 35 yards, but was returned 13 into Trojan territory, and Trinity had first down at the St. James 43 to start the final quarter.

Austin Morriss ran for 3 yards, and then for 22 yards on the biggest offensive play of the evening, yardage wise.  A Morriss pass to Rich Richardson gave Trinity a first and goal from the St. James 5.  After a 4 yard run on first down, Trinity was hit with a costly illegal participation penalty.  Two pass attempts netted a loss of 4 yards, and Drew Stokely was called in to attempt a 26 yard field goal, which he converted, giving Trinity the first points of the ballgame with less than 10 minutes remaining.

An endzone kickoff and a quarterback sack left the Trojans to punt into the wind.  The Wildcats were fortunate when Zack Shaw muffed the punt, but Trinity fell on the loose ball at the Trojan 46.  On third down, a defensive holding penalty gave Trinity a critical first down.  Three plays later, Morriss again took off running through the middle of the Trojan defense for 20 yards down to the 1, and this time they would not be denied as Shaw carried for a one yard touchdown on the next play.  Stokely's extra point gave Trinity a seemingly safe 10 point lead with less than 6 minutes remaining in the game.

On the next drive, a Trojan pass was intercepted by Estes McLemore and returned to the St. James 27.  Three plays after a 13 yard run on fourth down and 2 by Shaw, he finished up the scoring with a 7 yard run for his second touchdown.  Stokely's extra point made what would be the final 17 - 0.

St. James had no choice but to go on fourth and 8 from their own 17, but the pass attempt was incomplete, and Trinity ran out the clock preserving the city and area victory.
