September 27, 1996.  Boykin Field.   Game Conditions:  Heavy rain thruout   Game Temperature:  77

Jeremy Mauldin's two eight yard touchdown runs were enough for the Wildcats as they took early command of the 3A Area 5 playoff race with a victory over area and cross-town rival Saint James, in a Trinity Homecoming which was played despite moderate to mostly heavy rain throughout the game.

Saint James was driving on their first possession, getting as close as the Trinity 33, but two illegal substitution penalties stalled the drive and on a long field goal attempt, the snap was well over the head of the kicker and holder, resulting in a 26 yard loss on fourth down.  The Trojans were equally as giving on the defensive side, as the first touchdown by Maudlin was set up on a crucial face mask penalty on a quarterback sack.  The second touchdown was set up by a double deflection interception by David Coxhead at the Trojan 34 as the Wildcats sealed the game with the score in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats failed to attempt a pass in the game, but rushed for over 160 yards to move the ball on the swampy field.  Mauldin picked up 71 on 20 carries, while tailback Shallum Harris added 70 yards on 18 carries.  Saint James could only manage 59 yards rushing on the tough turf, 58 of those yards by Jason Smith on 19 carries.
