The Maplesville Red Devils were ranked # 4 pre-season in 1A, and they justified early season expectations by opening their campaign with a 38 - 0 shutout of the visiting Saint James Trojans.  The Red Devils rushed for 288 yards, while the Trojans could only generate 102 yards of total offense.

Three Trojan turnovers on the first four offensive drives of the game led directly to Red Devil touchdowns.  On the first offensive drive of the game, Mark Tillis recovered the first Saint James fumble at the Trojan 14, and Wesley Morrow scored from 15 yards out several plays later.  On the next drive, Maplesville quarterback Keith Hamilton kept for two long runs of 35 and 20 yards before Kelvin Morrow scored the touchdown from 7 yards.

Harrison picked up his first of two touchdowns after a short drive resulting from another Trojan fumble, and a third first half fumble led to Kelvin Morrow's second score.

The Red Devils added a 34 yard field goal from Larry Colburn, who also converted all five of his extra point attempts, in the waning seconds of halftime.

The final touchdown of the game, before the Red Devil reserves were inserted, occurred on the first drive of the third quarter.  A costly illegal participation penalty against the Trojans gave Maplesville a first down on the Trojan 20, and seven grueling plays later, Harrison kept for the 4 yard touchdown and the final margin of victory.

Sequon Herring, primed to be the leading rushing threat for the Trojans in the 1995 season, was hampered by a hamstring injury suffered in practice.  He rushed for only 22 yards on 8 carries, but did return a kickoff 63 yards.  Mark Berry picked up 58 yards on 13 carries to lead the Trojans and added 12 tackles from his linebacker spot.  Harrison was the stat leader for Maplesville, rushing for 95 yards on only 7 carries including his pair of touchdowns.
