Saint James' first trip to the playoffs since 1985 was eagerly anticipated, but the opponent clearly wasn't.  Four different Saint Clair County ball carriers scored double digit yardage touchdowns as the top-ranked Fighting Saints easily advanced to the second round of the 1993 2A playoffs with a 47 - 0 victory over the outmanned Trojans.

The first play of the game probably set the tone for what was to be an unproductive night as the Trojans could not cleanly pick up the kickoff and were tackled at their own five yard line.  Several plays later, Adidas Byers recovered a Trojan fumble at the 25.  Four plays later, the Saints were in the endzone as Patrick Williamson picked up the first of his three touchdowns from 14 yards out.  The extra point failed, but the Saints were ahead by six less than three minutes into the game.

Neither team could manage a first down on their next possession, but the Saints punt took a peculiar bounce and hit the back of an unsuspecting Trojan upman.  Maurice Vandergrift picked up the ball and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown.  It was decided, dubiously and perhaps incorrectly, by the referees there was not a muffed punt because the ball was not being fielded by the player who was hit by the ball, thus allowing the return for the touchdown.  A two point conversion pass made up for the earlier miss, and Saint Clair County was up by 14 midway through the first quarter.

The Trojans advanced to midfield on the ensuing drive, and forced the Saints back deep with a punt inside the 15 yard line.  However, the 87 yard drive was highlighted by a 25 yard reverse by Monfrey Perry.  Six plays later, Jeremy Byers scored from forty yards out and Mike Cash converted an extra point for a 21 - 0 Saint Clair County lead.

A short punt to the Saint James 44 gave the Saints a short field and a two play touchdown drive.  Adidas Byers pass to Craig Mize picked up 21 yards, and Williamson ran for 23 on the next play for his second touchdown of the game.  Cash cashed in on the extra point kick for a 28 - 0 lead with nearly 5 minutes remaining in the half.

Saint Clair County did have a chance to add a score just before halftime as an Armstrong pass was intercepted and returned to the Trojan five yard line, but the Saints could not convert the turnover into points before the half ended.

After the Saints returned the second half kickoff to their own 43, they were in the endzone three plays later.  Adidas Byers ran for 18, Jeremy Byers kept for 9, and Williamson completed his touchdown trifecta with a 30 yard run.  The kick failed, but the Saints were very firmly in control at 34 - 0 and the reserves hit the field.

The teams traded punts for the remainder of the third quarter, but on the first play of the final quarter, Jeremy Howard bust out for a 66 yard score and the 40 point plateau had been reached.  Later in the game, Shahean Jones scored on a 25 yard touchdown and Cash's third extra point wrapped up the shutout at 47 - 0.

Two key starters for the Trojans were unable to play.  Quarterback Walter Moss was out for his second consecutive game due to neck problems, and Will Webber, starting linebacker and part time fullback, was out due to concussions previously suffered.  Hunter Pappas picked up 80 yards on 15 carries to lead the Trojans in their return to the state playoffs, albeit not a necessarily successful one, but at least the eight year streak of absence from the state playoffs had been broken.
