October 11, 1985. Clay
Stadium. Game conditions: not yet available
The Trojans shook
off a very lethargic first 25 minutes on both halves of the
ball, dropping behind by ten points early. However,
Saint James recovered to score 26 consecutive points as they
defeated the Highland Home Flying Squadron on the road in a 1A
Area 9 matchup.
Johnny Redding
rushed for 142 yards on 30 carries, but other Trojan runners
were held to minus 17 yards. Highland Home actually
outgained Saint James 207 to 168; most of those Squadron yards
occurred in the first half. The Squadron also out
first-downed the Trojans 13 to 9, but only 2 of those 13 first
downs were in the second half as well.
Redding scored late
on a long 57 yard run, and earlier added a 49 yard punt return
for a touchdown to help Saint James pull away from the
Squadron. Jeff Stevenson and Tommy Aplin each scored on
short runs to overtake the early ten point margin.
