Thursday, September 3, 1981.
Catholic Field.
The Saint James defensive
players were the stars as they held Hayneville to 48 yards
total offense by keeping them outside the Trojan 40 yard
line the entire game. Hayneville also committed seven
turnovers to hamper their cause, and Doug Lyon's pair of
three yard touchdown runs were enough on the offensive side
as the Trojans shut out the Blue Devils 12 - 0.
This was the only Thursday game of 1981 for the Trojans, as
Catholic had a home game scheduled the following night on
the co-owned field. This would be the last (year of)
schedule conflict, as unknowingly at the time, Saint James
would be playing on a different field by this time next
season.
Neither team was functioning well on offense, until Ragan
Ingram recovered a Blue Devil fumble which gave the Trojans
a chance to score just before halftime, which they
did. Donald Mack led the way for Saint James with 61
rushing yards on 14 carries while Lyon carried 17 times for
42 yards including his pair of scores.
