In the 1977 season opener, the only
Thursday night game of the year, Wayne Dunklin was the star
for the visiting Red Devils. He rushed 17 times for
133 yards and two touchdowns in the first four minutes of
the game, caught two passes for 32 more yards, and intercepted a pass and
returned it 25 yards. Saint James' Richard Steckley
blocked a punt
setting up the only Trojan score, but any momentum was
quickly forfeited as the subsequent kickoff was returned for an immediate Lowndes
County touchdown. The Trojans were held to only 23
yards offense, 6 yards rushing and 17 yards passing.
