October 5, 1973. Municipal Park Field.
The Trojans made
their first visit to Mobile to play against the Saint Paul's
Episcopal Saints, another team competing in its first season
in the Alabama High School Athletic Association, and Saint
James proved a worthy opponent for the first three
quarters. However, in the fourth quarter, the Saints put
the game away with a pair of touchdown passes from Vic Dubose
to (unknown first name) Rentz. Charlie Potts, who led
the Saints with 55 yards rushing, scored on an early touchdown
and added another in the fourth quarter. Curt Mosteller
chipped in a two point conversion run after three consecutive
failed extra point kick attempts.
The first touchdown was on the opening drive of the
game. It took the Saints seven plays to score.
Potts ran for 35 yards immediately prior to the 12 yard
touchdown for the final two plays of the drive. On the
next offensive possession for Saint Paul's, they moved the
ball again down to the Trojan two before fumbling. Later
in the second quarter, Saint James marched down the field, but
was stopped at the Saints one yard line on fourth down.
The Trojans could only manage six first downs against the
Saints while giving up eleven.
