St. James suffered its first loss of the season
as the speed of the St. Jude Pirates was on full display in
the second half as the Pirates poured in 40 points, and a 13-0 run early
in the fourth quarter turned a modest
seven point lead into a twenty point lead as St. Jude defeated St. James
by 21. Antonio James led the way
with five field goals and 8 of 9 shooting from the foul line. The
Pirates shot free throws extremely well,
making 16 of their 20 attempts (80%), while the Trojans, who actually had
more attempts, could only convert
just more than 40% of theirs. A Ja'Cory Cotton bucket midway through
the second quarter gave St. Jude a
17-15 lead they would never relinquish. Matt Ward scored 10 of his
team high 12 in the second half.

Hillary Barnes' three pointer awoke the Trojans
from a first quarter slumber before St. James began a 27-1
scoring run lasting nearly two entire quarters, and later the Trojans withstood
a late flurry by Montgomery
Academy while holding on for a 5 point victory and a trip to the Capital
City Conference Holiday Tournament
Championship game. St. James was ice cold in the first quarter, only
converting one of their two first half free
throw attempts. A Diana Buss three pointer gave the Eagles a 19-6 lead
midway through the second quarter.
The Eagles would not score another field goal until the second minute of
the fourth quarter, and would only tally
one free throw during that time. Carrie Adams began and ended the first
half part of the comeback, with her late
bucket cutting the lead to one point at halftime. The MA freethrow
made the score 20-18 in favor of the Eagles,
but St. James would score the next 13, beginning with a Hillary Barnes three
pointer and concluded in part by two
field goals and three free throws by Lauren Kloess. The Trojans' 33-20
lead was cut no closer than five as the
Eagles tried frantically to get back into the game late.
