Taylor Nelson scored 16 of his 20 game high points
in the first half, and Chris Roberts and Matt Ward
each scored 10 of their 16 points in the second half as the Trojans began
their area schedule in their
first varsity basketball meeting ever against new area rival Brewbaker Tech.
The Trojans did not convert
a single three point shot in the game, surrendering 7 three pointers to the
Rams. However, the Trojans
visited the free throw line twice as many times (38 to 19) and made 24 to
their opponents' 9. The Rams
only led once, at 2-0, and only tied once afterwards, at 4-4. The St.
James lead was as much as 12
(40-28) midway through the third quarter, but three consecutive three pointers
by Brew Tech cut the lead
to 5 (with two Trojan freethrows in the middle). The Rams could never
get closer than 5 points afterwards.

Cassie Moore towered above her opponents, and scored 12
points of her own and dished out numerous
assists to other team members as the Brewbaker Tech Lady Rams defeated the
Lady Trojans in their
first meeting ever, and the first area matchup of the season for St. James.
Very few trips were made to
the free throw lanes, especially for St. James, who only shot twice. Brew
Tech made only 4 of their
12 attempts. Lisa Bright was the bright spot, literally, as she made
six field goals, most from the free
throw lane. The Lady Rams started the game with a 9-0 run and never
looked back. St. James managed
to close the gap to 2 on several occasions in the third quarter, but could
never tie the score.
