The Trojans shook off some offensive doldrums with a
frenetic run in the latter half of the third quarter as
St. James claimed the Capital City Conference basketball title with a
7-1 record as they defeated the Catholic
Knights by 10 in the final game of the regular season. Michael
Thorpe was a thorn in the Trojans' side in the
first half as he came off the bench to hit 3 three pointers in the
first half. The lead seesawed back and forth,
but Bob Weber scored the last five points of the half to give the
Knights a 4 point halftime lead. There was
about a 10 minute delay before the start of the third quarter because a
net had to be replaced on one of the
goals. The lead continued to change hands, but Chris Roberts'
lay-in with 3½ minutes in the third quarter gave
the Trojans a 39-38 lead they would not give up. Adam Mills
scored the next 7 points, and the Trojans had a
50-40 lead late in the third quarter. However, the Knights would
score the next 9 and the game was tight again.
Roberts made an old-fashioned three point play and another layin to
give the Trojans a 6 point cushion, and the
game would get no closer as the last 3 minutes were predominantly
focused at the foul lines.

St. James scored the first nine points of the game in a quick manner,
and the lead never got closer than 6 points
the remainder of the game as the Lady Trojans clinched the Capital City
Conference Championship with a 54-43
away victory over Catholic in their final game of the regular
season. The Trojans repeatedly beat the Lady Knights'
press and Hillary Barnes either pulled up for shots, made layups, or
passed off to someone under the basket for a
shot. Emily Meadows hit double digits for the second consecutive
game, Elizabeth Richards was the helper in the
first half, and Carrie Adams in the second half. The Knights, who
only hit 5 field goals in the first half, upped the
tempo, especially in the fourth quarter, but St. James played them
virtually even despite some foul trouble throughout
the second half.
