Taylor Nelson poured in his typical game high
of 29, including 11 of 14 from the freethrow line,
but it took the Trojans nearly the entire game to make up an early hole they
dug for themselves,
and the 6A Prattville Lions came away with a 6 point victory to give the
Trojans their first home
loss of the season. The game was tied early at 4, but the Poets scored
11 of the last 13 points in
the first quarter to take a 12 point lead which eventually was extended to
17. However St. James
cut the lead to 11 at halftime after Adam Mills made his freethrows after
being fouled on a three
point attempt, and got as close as 2 after a pair of Mills three pointers
in the middle of the third
quarter. However, Jace Merrill hit a key three pointer, and Merrill
and J.D. Douglas converted
conventional three point plays soon after, and the lead was back to 8 by
the end of the quarter.
The Trojan press was evident and effective in the fourth quarter, and Nelson's
basket with 1:35
remaining tied the game at 53. However, Prattville, which failed to
make a free throw attempt in
the first half, made 9 of their 10 in the second half and never let the Trojans
take a lead.

St. James could only manage one basket in the first quarter, and was down
by as many as 17 early
before the offense and defense awakened, but the Junior Varsity Lions with
a balanced scoring attack
were on their way to a 54-28 victory. In a quick paced game with few
fouls and few stoppages, both
teams ran up and down the court but it was the Lions who were more able to
put the ball in the basket
with an excellent shooting performance. Ken Sanders led the way with
11. Tyler Henry scored 9 of
his 12 points in the second half, including two three pointers, but it was
not enough for the Trojans on
this night.

St. James shook off a sluggish first quarter, and responded with a powerful
15 point second quarter anchored
by Kelli Christian's three pointer and excellent free throw shooting as they
defeated the Lanier Lady Poets
Junior Varsity by 7. Consecutive baskets by Neely Ketzler midway through
the second quarter tied the game at
10, and then gave the Trojans a 12-10 lead they would never give up. The
Trojans hit 11 of their first 12 free
throws to keep the margin safe, although the Poets cut it to 2 on one occasion
in the fourth quarter.
