St. James scored 23 consecutive points, three
pointers by Taylor Nelson and Adam Mills to end the third
quarter, and the first 17 points of the fourth quarter, to break open a moderately
close game as the Trojans
clinched a tie for the area championship with a 78-53 win over Tallassee.
A Kyle Stokes three pointer gave
Tallassee its only lead of the game at 26-25 midway through the second quarter.
After a timeout, St. James
scored the next 7 points and would not trail again. The game was quick
paced, and relatively foul free
despite some physical play. St. James only committed 9 fouls in the
game, and Tallassee only 7. William
Henderson connected on six three pointers for the Tigers, including three
in the last 110 seconds of the game.

In a game which was considerably more physical and foul-prone than the varsity
boys matchup, the Lady
Trojans racked up their highest point total of the season as they scored
22 consecutive points surrounding
halftime in defeating the Lady Tigers. The Trojans came out red hot,
scoring 18 points in the first 3½ minutes
of the game, hitting five threes in the first quarter as they built an early
27-9 lead. St. James led by 25 at
halftime and by 38 before Tallassee scored in the second half. Lady
Tiger Jamille Washington, who scored
12 of Tallassee's 18 first half points, was held to only 1 in the second
half, while it was the Barnes and Richards
show for St. James, as they combined for 9 three pointers of the team's 11
in the game.
