Taylor Nelson matched his jersey number with a huge
33 point performance, and the Trojans,
especially early, responded at the free throw line when they needed to as
they defeated the Rams
for the second time this season, 58-52. Both teams had players in foul
trouble in the first half
as 19 fouls were committed before the halftime buzzer. St. James made
the most of their
opportunities, converting 14 of 16 first half freethrows, while Brew Tech
only converted 4 of 12.
Nelson, who was supported brilliantly by numerous assists from the other
team members, outdid his
first half 15 point performance by 3 in the second half, and his three point
play late in the second
quarter gave the Trojans a 24-21 lead they would never give up. However,
Ram Terrence Jiles
hit four three pointers, including two in the final quarter, to close the
gap, and Joseph Hamilton,
whose 22 point performance as a non-starter merely shadowed that of Nelson's,
hit a three to cut
the lead to 52-50 late in the game. However, Nelson scored the last
8 points for the Trojans and
the Rams only once had a possession with a chance to tie or take the lead
in the final quarter in a
physical and hard fought game.

Cassie Moore scored all 11 of the Lady Rams' first quarter
points, returned after picking up her second
foul to convert a rare four point play (a three plus the free throw on the
shot), and made 6 of her 7
free throws as Brewbaker Tech in their first season of varsity basketball
play took control of the area
race with a six point victory over the Lady Trojans. Nikesha Jackson
filled the void during Moore's
brief first half foul problem absence by draining two consecutive three pointers,
and she added a third
with 1:37 remaining in the final quarter as Brew Tech finally broke open
a see saw game. Hillary Barnes
made six three pointers in a gallant effort for St. James, but Moore and
Dwana Martin, who scored all
twelve of her points in the second half, and the Lady Ram inside game was
too much for the Lady Trojans
as they suffered their second defeat in two meetings against the Lady Techsters.
