SAINT JAMES 8, Trinity 2
Saint
James and Trinity played the 101st game in their all time
rivalry and the Trojans closed the gap to 53 (Trinity) to
48 (Saint
James) all time by defeating the Wildcats 8 - 2.
Saint James (2 - 4), facing a brutal preseason schedule,
scored
four early runs off Trinity starting pitcher Coleman
Ellis.
Two walks were followed by a Carson Howard RBI
single. After
two Ellis strikeouts, a second first inning run scored on
a wild
throw on a stolen base attempt.
The Trojans added two in the second inning on three hits -
RBI
singles by both Ethan Beard and Zac Russell who were the
first
inning run scorers. The Wildcats cut the lead to 4 -
1 in the
top of the fourth on a leadof double by Grayson Ashe, an
unsuccessful fielders choice, and a ground out.
Saint James quickly rebounded with a pair of unearned runs
in the
bottom of the fourth on a hit by pitch, a sacrifice, a
groundout, a
double error play, and a double by Howard.
Saint James scored their final two runs in the bottom of
the fifth
inning off relievers Parker Patterson and Coleman Stanley
on a two
RBI double by Beard, who went 2 for 3 in the leadoff
position with
3 RBIs. Trinity added their final run in the top of
the sixth
on another leadoff double by Ashe, an error, a hit by
pitch, and a
wild pitch.
Howard went four innings giving up only 2 hits and 1
run.
Cooper Wright, Reed Mangum, and Adam Garnett each pitched
a single
inning giving up a combined 1 run and 2 hits.
