SAINT JAMES 9, Jemison 4
Saint James managed to get a season-opening baseball game
in before the predicted winter weather onslaught on
President's Day Monday morning as they defeated visiting
Jemison 9 - 4 in a game shortened to 6 innings by rain and
lightning.
Michael Winn went 2 for 3 including a two run home run, an
RBI single, and a key early sacrifice to kickstart a three
run second inning. Foster Rasmussen had two more of
Saint James' eight hits and drove in a run with a
double. Jeffrey Ford added a pair of RBIs with a
single and a bases loaded walk.
The Trojans scored in the first inning on a two out Carson
Howard walk, a stolen base, and an RBI single by starting
pitcher Clint Shores, who went the first two
innings. He gave up three runs in the second to give
the Panthers a brief 4 - 3 lead, but Saint James scored
three of their own in the bottom of the second to retake
the lead for good. Cooper Wright came in to start
the third and pitched three innings of two hit one run
(unearned) ball to earn the win. Reed Mangum faced
the minimum number of Panthers in the sixth inning to seal
the victory.
Saint James added three runs in the third, two on the Winn
home run, and added single runs in the fourth and sixth
innings before the game was called due to rain and nearby
lightning.
