The Trojans eliminated their three year second round jinx with an exciting final at bat victory
as they scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to eliminate the Elmore County Panthers
2-1 in a thrilling well-played pitchers battle of a game.  Each team scored a run in the first
inning.  Rod Weldon walked with one out for the Panthers, and an out later he was doubled home
by Josh Lock on a deep ball which would have been out most any day had the wind not been
blowing directly in.  In fact, probably 5 potential homerun balls were kept in the park by the wind
which has been seemingly everpresent this season.  The Trojans quickly responded with an
unearned run in the bottom of the first.  Jason Soriano walked but was eliminated on a fielders
choice by Tyler Henry.  Henry advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Guy Martin walked.
Taylor Thompson hit a ground ball to short for a potential inning-ending double play.  The out
at second was recorded, but the throw to first got by allowing Henry to score the tying run.
Elmore County only had one more runner reach second base the entire game, and St. James
only briefly threatened in the fifth inning after one out hits by Soriano and Henry.  However,
two of those held-in-the-park fly balls ended the threat.  Adam Mills pitched the first five innings
for St. James, not receiving a decision.  Ted Brewer pitched the final two innings, giving up only
one walk (and the baserunner was caught stealing), while striking out 4.  He got credit for the win
as the Trojans scored in the bottom of the seventh.  With one out, Brett Gantt hit a deep fly to
right which stayed in the park but hit at the base of the wall, and he reached second with a double.
Two pitches later, Jason Soriano lined a single over the third baseman's head, and when the ball
barely eluded the left fielder, Gantt was sent home and beat the throw by a step.  Blake Reed got
the loss in a complete game effort his coach called his best outing of the season.  St. James moves
on to the best 2 of 3 third round.
