1 for 2, BB, double
Brandon King 1 for 1,
single, 2 RBI, 2 HBP
For the second consecutive year, the Trojans
shut out area rivals Tallassee at home, with
Brandon King's second inning 2 RBI single enough to hold as St. James
defeated the Tigers
3-0. Taylor Thompson led off the bottom of the second with a
single, and C.J. Shaw hit
the left field fence halfway up immediately following with a
double. King then lined a single
into right field just out of reach of the Tiger first baseman to plate
two runs. Tallassee
threatened in the top of the third with two out singles by C.J.
Ledbetter and Ryan Peaden
before being retired, and again in the fifth inning as Cody Eckstein
singled and went to second
on a throwing error before Ledbetter walked. However, winning
pitcher Ted Brewer retired
the final two batters of the inning. Brewer pitched 6 shutout
innings to lower his earned run
average further below 1.00. The Trojans added an unearned
insurance run in the bottom of
the sixth. Shaw walked and King was hit by a pitch. Brewer
hit a ground ball to second, but
the throw to the shortstop covering second base to begin a potential
double play was dropped.
An out later, Brett Gantt grounded into a force out at second plating
Shaw with the final run.
Mitch Lawrence came in and struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced in
the seventh for a save.
Ryan Peaden, who pitched a 6 inning complete game for Tallassee, was
excellent despite the
loss, with 11 of the Trojans' 18 outs recorded by strikeout.
Brewer struck out 5 in his 6 innings.
